Dog Lost During Evacuation

Central Okanagan Dog Control officers hope someone will be able to help reunite a local family with its dog.

The older, female, collie-cross was found by a McCulloch Road resident on the night of August 20th in the Chute Lake area.  Dog control officers picked up the dog the next morning and a check by a vet found the dog wasn’t injured, but has a skin irritation.  It’s believed the dog may have been lost during the evacuation of the area as a result of the Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park forest fire.  The dog has been cared for and kept at the Regional District Dog Pound.

Attempts to track down the owner have not been successful to date as the dog isn’t licensed, which is why the media has been asked to help out.  The dog has a 1996 rabies vaccination tag on its red collar, but no other information.  The clinic where the dog was vaccinated was sold and the new owners searched the records for the dog owner, but haven’t been able to find any information.

If you recognize this animal and can help bring the family back together, please call Regional District Dog Control at 860-9322.
